My Concept for a Game of Thrones Themed Park Land: Old Town

My Concept for a Game of Thrones Themed Park Land: Old Town

Hello Readers,

Of all the recent fantasy franchises of the past few years one has stood out against all others. That being Game of Thrones and its spinoffs based on George RR Martin’s book series, which since has gotten two spin offs and was left opened enough for more to be made following the story of the main HBO series. While we are still waiting for his final book, I have thought this franchise deserves a Theme Park Land.

My preference would be that Warner Brothers/HBO gains these rights and sells them to Universal for their eventual 5th gate (4th Theme Park) which may eventually arise once Epic Universe is completed, and its capacity issues are solved.

But where in the Realm of Ice and Fire can this land exist in the story. Many would suggest perhaps one of the islands of the Step-Stones, or the lesser known continent of Sothoryos, perhaps even some would argue for Essos. My argument however that i will present today, is Old Town the home of the citadel in Westeros, the place where the Maesters, the scribes and knowledgeable advisors in all kingdoms across Westeros are from.

Why Old Town. because we don’t want to tell stories set in only one era, but rather stories set in The Era of House of the Dragon, The knight of the Seven Kingdoms as well as in Game of Thrones, and the ones know would know these legends and stories are the Maesters, who have seen and written down the histories of Westeros for over a millenia, within this universe.

The land: events occurring

The first question I must answer we must ask when creating this land now that we know the where as old town is the when, when does our land take place, well obviously we will take place, following the events of the HBO Series, Bran the Broken is King, Tyrian is Hand of the King, and Sam is the Grand Maester, but what event is occurring in Old Town now that we have the setting, well obviously, it has to be a tournament. Bran won’t be around, he doesn’t have an interest in tournaments as he already knows how it will play out. Tyrian could be there as he loves a good celebration, and no greater celebration or events of carnivalesque occurs in the Game of Thrones Universe than at a tournament, look at Season one of Game of Thrones, the Tournament that honored Ned Stark, that Robert Baratheon threw him. Bran doesn’t throw Tournaments but through Sam and Tyrian the Citadel of Old Town was chosen as the perfect location for the tournament.

Characters like Bronn, Podric Paine, Sir Davos, Jaquen H’Gar, Brienne of Tarth, and perhaps a few original characters may wander around the land interacting with guests, as this is a time of peace a time after the war and the long night is behind them. This is the era where Bran the Broken is king, and life is actually exciting, without the threat of intrigue or dangers of the Lannisters' rule casting its shadow over the land.

The Attractions and Shows:

The Joust/Tournament: the first attraction will be a Joust/Tournament show. Knights in Armor, Horses, plenty of sights including an Animatronic Tyrian Lannister, who drinks from his hand and oversees the tournament, as Hand of the King. a Maester will sit with Tyrian and as guests watch the tournament there will be echoes of past stories: Duncan the Tall, Aegon”Egg”, Robert Baratheon, Loras Tyrell and The Mountain may all appear in this show as flashbacks in real time allowing Guests to witness stories of Tournaments past as the arena, changes location to Kings Landing. This will allow for flashbacks to be how the stories of this game are told before guests eyes in a miraculous Tournament.

History's of Westeros: The Story Changing Room: this Attraction will take place within the Citadel, as guests are brought in to hear a history of Westeros told by one of the Arch-Maesters. This attraction will be a motion simulator similar to Star Tours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including having the ability to change each time guests ride it. The thing they don’t expect is that they aren’t just met by an Arch-Maester who will be in the room sitting in a chair at the front of the story room, but Bran the Broken the king and 3 eyed Raven himself will both be in this attraction, they will be an animatronics and the Maester will tell stories, but because of Bran’s Gift he wargs and shows all of the guests the actions placing them in the center of the action. Perhaps they are put into stories of the Dance of Dragons and take flight with Daemon and Rhaenyra as guests are put into the center of the Green and Black Wars. Perhaps they are put into the center of the battle of the bastards, the battle of Winterfell, the Red Wedding, or the fall of Harrenhall.
Each 5-10 minute ride through will have 3 different stories within it. Stories of Joffrey of Hodor of Ned Stark of Robert's rebellion, riding with Khal Drogo’s Horde and beyond. Including perhaps an encounter with Arya Stark or even the Night King. From the Wall, to Essos, to Dorne and back.

A Coaster set in the Dungeons of Old Town: this ride will be an indoor roller coaster similar to Gringotts, Sam has been working on a new vehicle it’s made by the Maesters, and guests will ride on these trains, as they are given a tour gone wrong within the Citadel. On this tour they will encounter Gray Scale infected, Items of dark magic, and items the Maesters have been studying that aren’t exactly the most easy items to encounter. Qyburn’s Legacy, Wild-fire, perhaps even a Dragon Egg that hatches.

The Food

The food of this land should feel like both Tournament and Westerosi faire.

Old-Town Tavern:this Tavern is a place Bronn and Tyrian frequent when in Old-Town, it is a place of low rapport, and the perfect place for Ale, Wine and songs of old stories to be sung.

Market Food Stalls: in the market place there will be a five stalls of food from throughout Westeros and Essos, as quick service hand-helds. Turkey Legs, Legs of Mutton, Bread and Hot Pie’s“Hot Pie” will all be sold in the market, as well as wine and ale. They should feel real like a medieval festival, like a true village. Foods should be here from the Crag, Qarth, The Riverlands, The north, and perhaps even Bravos.

Conclusion:

Despite this being a small concept, what do you think readers? Let me know in the comment section below.
