 HHN and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter:Concepts for how Universal can create Halloween Horror nights style attractions and a Wizarding World only Specialized Event for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter


In the last few weeks my Partner and I have been traveling to Universal Studios Orlando and taking in the experiences and offerings of this park, today I wish to discuss something that has been sitting on my shoulders for sometime, since 2003 Universal Studios hasn’t featured HHN in Islands of Adventure, and while I understand there are issues in doing so again, I think it is time that Universal consider  a special event with offerings similar to HHN , but instead of the event being centered around halloween it is set within The Wizarding World across both Islands of Adventure IOA and Universal Studios(USO).

For the past few years the Death Eaters have arrived in USO(Universal Studios Orlando) as part of HHN and while I love this concept as part of a Scare Zone, I would argue that this could be also be taken a step further, with HHN or with this conceptualized entirely New Event in the future. 


Temporary Walkthrough attractions/Houses Set in the Wizarding World


Today I will discuss my concept for Wizarding World Themed Walkthrough attractions set at both IOA and USO, as part of this event or as part of HHN. 


Azkaban Prison

Guests will be teleported from Diagon Alley to Azkaban Prison encountering Prisoners, and Dementors, in a place that was dark and limitedly represented in the films, but could make for a great Haunted House Set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Into the Forbidden Forest

This house takes place somewhere behind Hagrid's Motorbike and the Train Station for the Hogwarts Express. Guests will enter the Forbidden Forest encountering Arachnomatulas, Centaurs, Fluffy, Werewolves, as well as a variety of other Creatures, within the Forest that Surround the Hogwarts Grounds, as well as Devil Snare and Hagrids Half Brother Gromp. 

Bill and Fleur's Wedding Disaster

Guests will take the floo network to the burrow, from Diagon Alley where they will attend Fleur and Bills wedding, only for things to go wrong as the Death Eaters take out the minister and Kingsley Shacklebolt's ominous message plays through the wedding. Guests must get to the Floo network encountering Dementors, Death Eaters, Magical Creatures and members of the Order of the Phoenix as they escape. 

Grimmauld Place to the Riddle house: Floo Network Hijacking

Set in USO, this house will start at Grimmauld Place,where guests will enter the house of Black encountering Creature, the House Elf CareTaker, the Portrait of Misses Black, Buckbeak and Sirius. However as they get to the next floor Guests encounter bellatrix who forces them through the Floo Network, Malfoy Manor, where guests will encounter Snatchers, Fenrir Greyback, Death Eaters, before being transported to the Riddle House, where they will encounter Nagini, Wormtail, and Voldemort, where they will be rescued by the Ministry and return to Diagon Alley.

Occlumency and Legilimency

Guests attend a lesson in Occlumency and Legilimency where they are ushered back into the memories of Severus Snape. Encountering James Potter, Sirius Black and the Marauders in the past, as well as Snapes Darkest Moments. This can also occur in Harry’s mind as well taking guests through different darker memories from years 1-6 of the Harry Potter films.

 Chaos in The Pensieve

Guests enter Dumbledore's office and enter the pensieve, unfortunately, multiple memories cloud the pensieve showing the dangers of the device taking guests back into the memories of Voldemort, Dumbledore, Slughorn, Harry and More in a corrupted version of The Wizarding World, where multiple memories distort the reality, of their world. 

The Tri-Wizard Cup

Guests are given a behind the scenes look of the Tri-Wizard Cup, but their tour goes aray as they encounter the beasts from the Goblet of Fire including, Dragons, Mermaids and Grindylows, a bewitched Victor Krum within the Maze and Mad Eye Moody.

Time Turner

Guests will use a time turner with a historian to witness the History of Hogwarts taking them, through many years of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast Franchise and beyond allowing guests to witness events from each year including, The Dementors from Year III, The Dragon attack from Year IV, The Battle of Hogwarts from year7 and much much more, as guests encounter some of Harry’s greatest Challenges and most Frightening of foes. 

The Tales of Beedle the Bard: A 3D house.

Guests enter into an enchanted version of the Book The Tales of Beedle the Bard, encountering the events that take place in his stories, some being dark, others comical, for a twist to the classic fables of the Wizarding World.

Secrets of Hogwarts Castle: The Escaped Bogart

This house takes place in Hogwarts, but will utilize the Floo Network to travel throughout the school allowing guests and into the different Secret Chambers of Hogwarts, such as the one where the Mirror Of Erised was housed in the first Film, The Chamber of Secrets, The Room of Requirement  and the forbidden section of the Hogwarts Library. In the First chamber they will encounter Fluffy, Devil Snare and the chess pieces from the First Films Finale, in the Chamber of Secrets they will encounter, The Basilisk already blinded by Harry and Faux and Dementors, in the library’s forbidden section guests will encounter Mr. Filch who informs them of a Bogart on the looks which takes guests to the Room of Requirement. Where guest will encounter items of the room including the chess pieces from the first part of the house, Pixies, and the Bogart in 3 forms, A giant Spider, Clowns, and finally the bogart will take the form of Lord Voldemort, before guests are rescued by Harry/ the Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor/Dumbledore, who casts Ridiculous. 


Special Event Food Offerings

New Butterbeer Items 

  1. Butterbeer popcorn: a Butterscotch and vanilla coated Popcorn

  2. Butterbeer Hard Candy: a butterscotch and vanilla candy with a fizzing popping candy effect

New Candy and Sweets

  1. Licorice Wands: in multiple flavors including Strawberry, chocolate, Licorice, and Butter Beer


Souvenir Cups/Sippers

  1. Mad Eye Moody’s Flask: as a concept one item i think all guests will like to encounter in the parks is Moody’s Flask that contains a polyjuice potion inside of it.

  2. Hogs Head and Hopping Pot official event Flagon:this will be an all you can drink butter beer flagon made of metal and will have attached to it a refill of butterbeer priced between free or  $2 refills for usage at the event.

  3. Black Lake Gilly Water Bottle: this bottle will include Grindylows and mermaids as well as light up, paying homage to the black lake with the Giant Squid inside the Bottle.

Popcorn Buckets

  1. A Cauldron: for this event to sell specialized Cauldron Popcorn bucket with $1-$3 refills

New Drinks

  1. Aberforth's Brews: a variety of Meads served at the Hogs head from aberforths own stocks, these meads, are very different in flavor and can be ordered as a flight to try all of the flavors of drink.

  2. A variety of Alcoholic beverages themed with names such as: Dementor’s Kiss, Horntail Fire, and other themed names served elsewhere in the parks outside of the Wizarding world.

  3. A variety of drinks and concoctions both alcoholic and non-alcoholic that were mentioned in the books but aren’t in the land, Daisyroot Draught, Beetleberry whiseky, and Red Currant Rum

  4. A Variety of Potions will also be sold.

    1. Hairless Polyjuice potion: it may not change guests into someone else but it’s about time it’s been tasted.

    2. Veritaserum

    3. Felix Felicis

    4. Wolfsbane potion

    5. Cough potion

    6. Antidote for Common Poisons

    7. Amortentia

    8. etc.

New Food Offerings

  1. Dragon Tartare AKA Dragon Balls: this is entirely up to Universal creative, but at the Slug Club meeting in year 6 Mclaggen eats this and spews over Snapes Shoes, its up to their interpretation of what these taste like and how to bring dragon meat to life. They were also said to give people really bad breath

  2.  Hagrid's Rock Cakes

  3. Hagrid’s Bath Buns

  4. Spotted Dick(?): not a wizarding food but I’ve always wanted to try it

Special events and Shows:

Aside from the current daily activities within the parks, new events will occur at the event to immerse guests in the wizarding world of Harry Potter and some smaller events about magic and its usage

Immersive Events and Shows

  • S.P.E.W: S.P.E.W will be talking about House Else Suffrage in Diagon Alley

  • Gringotts Goblins and Curse breakers: the goblins and curse breakers will make an appearance in Diagon Alley hoping that Guests will open an account at Gringotts.

  • D.A.: members of Dumbledore's army will be meeting in Hogsmeade

  • A meeting with Fireze: guests will be able to meet Firenze the Centaur in the Dark forest.

  • Charlie Weasley and his Dragons: Guests can attend a show featuring Bill Weasley that includes Dragons from the series, bring their wands to cast Aguamenti and Protego

  • Ministry Recruitment: the ministry has sent its agents to discuss careers with the Ministry such as Aurors etc. may feature some familiar and fantastic experiences

  • Death Eaters: as mentioned before the Death Eaters will make an appearance walking throughout Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.

  • Aurors and Death Eaters will be dueling in the streets, guests should be on the lookout and may be allowed to join in on the action. 

  • Special fireworks/Lighting Show at Hogwarts.

Exciting but not immersive, behind the scenes shows

  • A Wand Demonstration: guests may attend demonstrations  on how some of the battles within the harry potter films came to be. 

  • Something having to do with new Wands or Universal Creative announcing new Harry Potter Merch and immersive experiences. 

  • Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast Themed Monster Makeup Show.



Conclusion

While more can most definitely done, I leave my thoughts up to you the reader, do you think Universal should start making a Wizarding World Themed HHN House or Do a Wizarding World Specialized Event?
