 Speculation and Theory:Can Galaxy’s Edge be Getting an Era Retheme?

Today, I wish to discuss a theory that popped into my head at midnight last night, upon researching updates for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in the coming months. As announced at D23 The Mandalorian and Grogu, will be reportedly coming to Millenium Falcon Smugglers Run. this is odd to me as the Mandalorian takes place prior the the Sequel era, and it is only dawning on me now that this update may be getting purposefully delayed.

In previous articles on this blog I have described what little info I have obtained through some sources, who have in some cases proven reliable while others less so, in regards to the ongoing conflict at Lucasfilm in regards to Kathleen Kennedy(K.K) and Disney CEO Bob Iger. it is my theory this update will not come to Galaxy’s Edge until Kennedy Leaves which according to several sources I am inclined to believe will happen in Quarter 2 of this year (April 2025). It is my belief in accordance with this knowledge from these leakers and sources, that Iger has been sabotaging K.K and will be moving on with either Vice President Dave Filoni, or Mandalorian Director Jon Favreau, or the prodigal return of Lucasfilm founder George Lucas, following Kennedy’s departure this year(April).

In this pondering the delay on this Mandalorian and Grogu addition to Millenium Falcon smugglers run seems intentional, as intentional as the closure announcement of the Galactic Star Cruiser being turned into imagineering offices, that occurred last week. It is factually known that Iger was the person who pushed for Galaxy’s Edge to be set in the Sequel Era, however it wasn’t out of love for the sequels but rather to make something that was Current. 

The only current success Disney+ has seen in recent years from Star Wars was the Mandalorian and what fans have come to know as the Mando-verse and if the Mandalorian and Grogu, will be coming the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge to an attraction, it is theorized by me that Disney may be straying away from the idea of Galaxy’s Edge being stuck in the sequel era, and the Force Echo meet and greets of the Mandalorian, Grogu, Fennec Shand and Ahsoka may soon become interactive roaming characters replacing Ray, Chewbacca and Kylo Ren.

If this is to happen they will wait until Kennedy is gone and her agents within Lucasfilm are smoked out and removed, to create the quality content that us as Star Wars Fans have been desiring. 

In this article I wish to convey my idea of how Lucasfilm and Disney Imagineering can reboot Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge with the Mandalorian and Grogu at its center rather than the sequel trilogy.

Attractions

Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run

As we already know Smugglers Run, the attraction where guests fly the iconic Millenium Falcon will be receiving a Mandalorian and Grogu show scene as well as new exciting scenes(something that is needed for this attraction). However, if the entire land were to be transported back in time to the Era of the Mandalorian to coincide with this, what will happen to the ride as it is current. To begin Hondo Ohnaka’s lines in the preshow and during the ride will need to be re-recorded, this time replacing “Resistance” with “New Republic” or ‘Rebellion’, and “First Order” with “Imperial” or “Imperial Remnant” but possibly a new voice over scene may occur with a digitally rendered younger Han Solo(Harrison Ford) who as we know still is doing movies for both Marvel and Lucasfilm, which perhaps can go along the lines of congratulating guests or angry with Hondo for letting amature’s fly his precious home. While Hondo still needs to be included in this attraction, the inclusion of Han Solo can be a fun little easter egg for guests bringing their favorite smuggler to the attraction in such a minor way.

Rise of the Resistance

As for Rise this is where a retheme or reboot of Galaxy’s Edge could be tricky. For one the New Republic isn’t exactly hiding in Caves and according to Lore General Leia Solo leaves the New Republic to Found the resistance in 28ABY which is nearly 20 years before the events of The Mandalorian. However, there is a faction who lives in the caves who the Empire would want to get their hands on the “foundlings” of The Resistance base would be converted into a Mandalorian Covert, and our message will be from one of three characters, “the Armorer” “Ahsoka Tano”, “Carson Teva” or “Senator Leia Organa” this can be fun to play with, and they will describe why the New Republic, and the Mandalorians are teaming up and the incoming threat that is coming to Batuu. The Black leader X-Wing(belonging to Poe Dameron) and BB-8 may also be replaced by a different droid and New Republic X-Wing, in my opinion this should be Carson Teva, the Captain from the Mandalorian who is sort of a link between the Mandalorian’s and New Republic already in the series. Characters like Nien Nunb and Leiutenant Beck may remain as the icons of this attraction(similar to Hondo on Smuggler's Run)

On the Imperial Side(formerly First Order), we do have our big bad or rather bads. The entirety of the Star Destroyer will need to be looked at by Imagineers or included in the Mandalorians future seasons to prevent confusion. The Stormtroopers should be rethemed from First Order Stormtroopers to either Night Troopers, or Imperial Storm Troopers as the Finalizer is replaced by Grand Admiral Thrawn's Star Destroyer The Chimera.  Guests will still be detained this time by the Imperial Remnant, under the Command of The Nightsisters, Captain Enoch, Captain Pellaeon and Grand Admiral Thrawn. As they are infiltrated by Ezra Bridger(Eman Esfandi) who is also trying to escape the Chimera and will assist guests as they flee the Night Trooper(force zombies) and the Night Sisters who will replace Kylo Ren in the finale of this attraction.

  Character Interactions 

Around the land new characters will have to replace current ones for one Rey and Kylo will need to be replaced by Ahsoka and Thrawn, the Stormtrooper armor will need to be rethemed to Night Troopers or Imperial remnant Stormtroopers, and Characters like Krrsantan,Cad Bane, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, Chopper will need to join up with the likes of a new original spy character who will replace Vie Moradi, and Chewbacca, who can remain in the land. Now here is the interesting part, characters like Luke Skywalker, C3-PO, R2-D2, Han Solo, Lando Calrissian and Senator Leia Organa may not need to be brought in as interactive characters because of the popularity of the series on Disney+. While I am not against their involvement in being wandering characters in the parks, I feel they are too iconic.

However now that there are new wandering characters, perhaps we can get even more non-named characters and entertainment with this new era, including, Mandalorian, Night Sisters or even the return of more characters and aliens from this era, who can act as entertainers in this land, providing the land with the element of entertainment, that this land may need. Perhaps there are more bounty hunters, Jawa’s or even droids who walk and roam this land.

Shopping and The Merch

With an updated theming merch may need to update as well. 

First Order Cargo: will need to be updated into Imperial Cargo.

Resistance Supply: will need to be updated to Mandalorian or New Republic.

But aside from those the Marketplace and Dok Ondar’s will remain generally the same however anything having to do with the Sequels will need to be expunged and replaced, with more contemporary items, acting not only in the galaxy but also in the era by which these stories exist. 

Updating Scenery but not ruining entirely

As for scenic items, very few items will need to be updated to convert to this era, the First Order Flags can be replaced by Imperial Remnant Flags, the First Order symbolism will need to be removed near entirely from this park, from Helmets to blasters, to even new paint for the ships if deemed necessary. In particular the Tie Echelon can be made canon by Lucasfilm with ease by including it in the Mandalorian and Grogu film as either Pellaeon or Thrawn's transport.

The resistance logo luckily remains the same as the Old Republic and Rebel Alliance, however Batuu may become more of a war zone as imagineers make walkthroughs of the land to update it to this new Era of Star Wars lore.

Galactic StarCruiser’s

Many of you knew this was coming, it is my speculation and belief that they only closed this and leaked this information to the public to publicly embarrass Kathleen Kennedy. The offices, as speculated in a previous article, will only be offices until these new projects are completed and once the space is no longer needed for these expansion projects, they will need to find a way to make money. That is why I propose that Disney will inevitably reopen the Galactic Star Cruiser, but will also need to open a second one because of the demand for the product I am about to propose. 

As I mentioned prior, Characters like: Lando, Luke, Han, and Leia don’t need to be involved in the land, however to link this story to the Thrawn resurgence in the films, and place guest in the middle of this action with the more profitable characters could prove extremely useful to Disney, and see the resurrection of this experience. The reason I made Starcruiser’s plural in this section is because I want Disney to build not just one more but two more for a total of 3 star cruisers in the backlot of Hollywood Studios. These star cruisers will each tell different stories set within the Star Wars Universe during this era, and will all feature these more iconic characters as well as Din Jarin(The Mandalorian), Grand Admiral Thrawn, Ahsoka Tano and more, just to up the ante and bring in the fans who may not have  agreed with the sequels. This also will allow Disney to provide different features to each experience/hotel with different items being featured on each vessel allowing for re-visitability, different levels of LARP and Immersion and new original characters to meet across the 3 star cruisers, while still retaining the magic of the Original failed concept that closed last year.  This time one of the Star Cruisers can actually just be a highly immersive hotel, for those who were put off by the LARP idea while the other 2 will stay true to what the Star Cruiser is meant to be, and allow Imagineering to test the limits of what they can do, with these experiences.
