Disney’s Galactic Star Cruiser: A plan focusing on Vacation Packages, Souvenir’s and Drinks

As an avid theme park goer and former student of Transmedia Storytelling, a lover of all things Star Wars and Disney Parks, I am fascinated at the complete bombing of Disney’s Star Wars Galactic Star Cruiser at Walt Disney World. 4,500-6,000 is a lot of money for a trip as mentioned above for a Single Income No Kids group of friends as I have mentioned in my previous article, especially to spend that money, when we still have rents to pay and belly’s to fill, it just hardly seems worth it. Also given that we are between the ages of 21 and 26, drinking age and also being an alcohol enthusiast wanting to try as many beverages while aboard it just doesn’t seem fitting to take the trip. As I awoke this morning still unable to afford my Star Cruiser Voyage, a new plan emerged. An Idea that is cost effective and unlike my other ideas doesn’t fall on the shoulders of Disney to Expand Galaxy’s Edge or The Star Cruiser, but instead on its already present amenities.

While the Star Cruiser is an immersive live theater experience, with its all inclusive package including: a park ticket(just to Galaxy’s Edge),lightning lane(Rise of the Resistance, and Smugglers Run only)food and non-alcoholic beverages and ,Entertainment and stay bundled into one package, with only 100 rooms available it makes sense to cost 2500-3000 a night but 6,000 is asking alot especially given that guests will still want to buy souvenirs, alcoholic and specialty beverages and many won’t be leaving Galaxy’s Edge to the rest of hollywood studios during their visit. Currently a ticket just to Hollywood studios during the month of March,2023 costs at $149 per adult for Florida Residents and $159 per adult with lightning lane for both rides costing $15-$25 per person. That is only $179-$209 per person before taxes and before the additional cost of food which ranges at $20 generally in the parks at Docking bay 7 Food and Cargo and at max $15 at Ronto Roasters including Tax, before beverages are included. If guests are lucky enough to get a reservation to Oga’s Cantina thats a minimum of $40-$80 to a Maximum $80-$250 depending on what you order and if you get a lightsaber building reservation and or a droid its another $249.99 plus tax or an additional $119.99 plus tax. With whats currently included in the Star Cruiser’s pre put together package that ranges to about: 194-204 minimum to 224-234 maximum per person for the few hours spent in the park on excursion without alcohol or the stay.

While the galactic star cruiser is marketed as that of a luxury Disney hotel, its rooms are less valued by guests ,due to space concerns, than value resorts. A value resort(all star movies) stay in march for two nights goes for $185-$203 per night totalling to $370-$406 before taxes. Adding this cost to the food and park amenities as mentioned before ranges from $564-610 594-640 for the entirety of your stay before the added $20-$30 per person for food per meal or character dining which normally costs between $50-$60 per person and $25 a day parking cost. This brings us to the range from a minimum of $724-$870 or at maximum $804-$880 for your total stay for two nights with two meals aboard a day at a value resort per person.

Therefore the actual cost for a Star Wars Galactic Star Cruiser voyage before you add in the activities and actors is between $724-$880 per person total. So if my friend group of 4 adults go on this voyage it would cost us $2896-$3520 plus tax logically which is still half the cost of the Star Cruiser at current price with people our age spending more on souvenirs and alcohol which as we all know in the hospitality industry is where all the money is, bringing me to my concept for the Galactic Star Cruiser.

What if Disney dropped the prices to just about the range of $2896-$3520 plus tax for their standard cabins aboard the Galactic Star Cruiser and then created a variety of new vacation packages to boost the sales of Alcohol and Souvenir’s to pay the cost for their character actors and exclusive entertainment aboard it. An alcoholic or specialty beverage can range in disney between $20 and $100 depending on what the guests orders and many young adults(disney adults) will pay up to $500-$1000 on a Disney trip for Alcoholic beverages over the course of two days(I know from experience) especially in a group. What if by providing a vacation package that cost about $500-$1000 to guests for unlimited alcoholic and specialty beverages while aboard the Galactic Star Cruiser and while at Galaxy’s Edge,Disney could justify the price of 3396-4520 total for all the adults in the party, in doing so this excess of alcohol in the bloodstream will trigger the Single income no kids/Dual income no kids guests to spend frivolously buying all matter of merchandise and souvenirs, and due to the Star Wars fans historic love of merchandise and spending money on merchandise Disney is looking at another $500-$2000 spent including or excluding Savi’s workshop and the Droid Depot. Bringing us to the spending of a range of $3896-$6520 which can be used then to pay the Galactic Star Cruisers entertainment as it now touches the threshold be asked for by Disney. But thats not all they can do to increase merchandise and alcohol sales. Adding a $300-$500 package that bundles Savis and the Droid depot will boost this price point once more, and as more packages are added as does the sales for the Galactic Star Cruiser.

*These figures are meant to assist in creating fair pricing, I am sure there are better experts who can find better numbers and ranges within your company. My figures are based on what  I deem would be fair pricing as an outsider looking in. however with these packages The Galactic Star Cruiser can lower pricing and benefit exponentially from its creativity. Not only would these packages provide incentives to visit but lower prices to their theorized baseline ranges of $2896-$3520 plus tax, which is the lowest fair price a guest would pay for this experience. This depends entirely on generosity. When making price adjustments these need to be affordable for the average guest and not just the wealthy family, you need the D.I.N.K. and S.I.N.K. incomes*

Please take my concept to save this one of a kind vacation experience into consideration. I am fan who wants to assist the company in succeeding, and at the time of publishing have 0 to no connections within WDW Imagineering of the Disney company.
