Theme Park Review:Concepts to Make Dark Universe Better

Hello Readers,

As mentioned in previous Articles I recently attended a preview for Universal Epic Universe, the third Universal Theme Park, and as I have previously mentioned was disappointed in Dark Universe, which as I mentioned needed work to make a land that isn’t exactly based on the classic Universal Monsters IP.

I am a fan of Universal monsters and the classic films being a scholar of film in particular horror film studies, and I was disappointed by my experience in Epic Universe. Reluctantly I am not one to give up on a land and would be happy to provide my own concepts here on this blog to this land to assist in making the land more than what it currently is.

Part 1: Fixing Monsters Unchained

As mentioned in a previous article I am still surprised by the confusing story of Monsters Unchained. While I like the Idea and concept the ride itself at least during my ride through experienced technical glitches, that needed to be filled in by leaked video of the attraction online, I am still not certain if Dracula was defeated and what happened to Igor in the rides conclusion.

This is why I have come up with the concept of a third act being added to the ride, before it comes back into the station.

Following Igor being attacked by Bats, Dracula would take control of the Ride, similar to the scene in the mummy when Imhotep takes control of the ride and declares that the riders “souls are mine”

The ride will spin into Darkness, as we watch Victoria, and the Monster attempt to rescue guests from the Monsters who are attempting to escape. That is when Van Helsing, the monster Hunter will surprise guests, joining Victoria and the Monster in fighting off Dracula and the other monsters, giving the dark ride its conclusion of the Monster Hunters also being involved in the attraction.

This will also effectively boost sales of the Monster Hunter Gear across this park particularly with children, who rode this attraction.

Part 2: More attractions

The second thing mentioned is that this area of the park only has two attractions, and while I cannot be more specific about the attractions in terms of locations yet due to the maps on google still reflecting Dirt Lots. I can state a wish list for attractions that could be great in this land.

The CREATURE OF THE BLACK LAGOON: Boat RIDE

When I think of Universal one of the first rides I ever went on was Jaws back in the early 2000’s, why not build  a boat ride similar to Jaws featuring the creature from the Black Lagoon, as it attacks the boat and guests enter the monster's lair.

The Phantom of The Opera’s Gruesome SHOW

The least featured character in this land is the Phantom of the Opera who is momentarily featured in the ride Monsters Unchained. This character could be interesting to host a show of some sort, or have a show that goes wrong, and features Erik in a prominent role, with gruesome special effects and pyrotechnics.

Haunted House: Horror Nights esque Attractions

The next option is a series of Haunted Houses, centered around The Invisible Man, Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde(which the original wasn’t universal but warner bros. But the character is mentioned in the land already) and Dracula’s Brides, which may lack re-do-ability, would supply the land with much needed frights and horrors, that this land needs.

The British Museum Transportation System:

This will be a highly themed bus ride that runs from Universal Studios to Universal Epic Universe, with technology similar to the Hogwarts Express, where guests load onto a bus near the mummy, and are taken to the park delivering the mummy’s sarcophagus to Dark Moor, unfortunately Imhotep escapes and the bus is pursued by the mummy. This could be an interesting way to supply an immersive transportation option into the land from Universal to Epic Universe. Providing a 13 minute ride experience set on a bus, travelling from point a to point b and vice versa.

A Dracula themed Attraction set in Dracula’s Castle

While Monsters Unchained is great and contains all the monsters the possibility of a ride where instead of being on Frankenstein’s turf you are on Dracula’s could prove enlightening, as the first ever ride to act as both prequel or sequel to monsters unchained, feature Van Helsing and Renfield, as well as Victoria, and The Monster. This would be a ride vehicle more similar to spiderman and run by the monster hunters. Further establishing the world of this shared universe.

Part 3: Expanding the Land?

If universal were to expand the land, past Dark Moore this could be exciting, as currently everything exists in Dark Moore, perhaps similar to super nintendo world, they can divide the land into Dark Moore and into another are more suiting of the Creature from the Black Lagoon or expand Dark Moore to include more attractions such as the ones mentioned above.

Food and beverage

A sit down restaurant themed to The Phantom of the Opera.

French cuisine, with live music, performed by the phantom himself.

A potion stand run by Doctor Jekyll or The invisibleman

This would be similar to the potions vials that stand in Diagon alley at  the wizarding world of harry potter and could even be the same flavors with different names set in Dark Moore.

shopping

The Mad Science Supply Store

Sells items associated with Victoria Frankenstein, The invisible man and the Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

More characters to meet

The creature, The wolfman, Mr. Hyde/Doctor Jekyll, The Phantom Etc. every character who is featured in this land needs to be meetable in the land.

conclusion
